What’s Next?

Now that the holiday season is behind us and we can all take a deep breath, it’s time to contemplate ― what’s next?

For me, the holiday season was a mix of joy and heartbreak. I’m sure it’s the same for most people; the hauntings of holidays past and loved ones that are no longer with us ― the grandparents who embodied the family holiday spirit, the lost child whose smile lit up your every day, and the fading memories of your children when they were small with their excitement on Christmas morning opening the gifts from Santa. And the sad realization that those moments are gone and only live now forever etched in your memory.

Like everyone else, I push forward focusing on creating more beautiful moments and feeling truly blessed for all that I have. It sounds cliché, I know, but for me, it’s not because I’ve never had it before ― happiness.

However, unlike most people, I failed to make any New Year’s resolutions. Mainly because that part of my life is simply as cliché as it come; I vow to drop 20 pounds, I vow to get more sleep, exercise more, and read 20 new authors. I feel most people all desire similar things for the new year and I am no different.

This new year I have three manuscripts to finish and release. I am starting the second year of my doctorate program and striving to maintain my 4.0 (even though Advanced Statistics begs to differ), and we must complete the remodeling on our house so we can get it on the market. I am excited about the prospects on the horizon this year.
