Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day!! Isn’t that what everyone has been passing around today with large boxes of calories and expensive flowers that will wilt before their bloom has even diminished? I know, I know, I’m sounding cynical, but I’m not…honestly.

I believe in moonlight and roses, love at first sight and happily ever after. I consider myself one of the lucky ones. In this large and crazy world, I have managed to find my Prince Charming. And believe me, I’ve dated some frogs and even kissed a few toads before I found him. It wasn’t easy and there were times when I didn’t believe he was out there. Funny enough, it was the old adage of, I found him when I stopped looking for him. Or rather, he found me.

My husband Ty, my second husband to be precise, is truly the love of my life. Not only is he devastatingly handsome, he’s kind and gentle. Of course he hides behind a façade of sarcasm and boyish charm which only enhances his good looks. He’s not perfect but damn close.

Eight days ago my husband and I celebrated twelve years together. During that time we have shared some amazing experiences, both good and bad. There were times, okay only two, that we considered giving up. Thankfully, we didn’t. We fought for us and worked out our differences. It hasn’t always been easy, but I honestly cannot imagine sharing my life with anyone else.
Me & Ty
So when he asked me two days ago if I wanted the traditional flowers, candy and dinner out at a nice restaurant this evening, I hesitated. Mainly because a commercial announcing the release of the third season of Games of Thrones (and anyone who knows anything about me, knows I’ve an avid fan of George Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice series, along with HBO’s rendition of it in their series, Game of Thrones) came on. I smiled at my husband and quickly said; “No, I want that instead.” He laughed and said okay.

He knows me. I’d much rather him buy me something I really want then waste money on flowers that will wilt, candy that will only increase the size of my thighs or an overpriced dinner at a place where there will only be two things at most I can eat (I am allergic to damn near EVERYTHING) on the menu.

I’m a realist…but still a playful romantic. Last night after my husband had retired for the evening, my daughter and I snuck out to pick up a few things at the store. While there, I picked Ty up a couple packages of Fruit of the Loom boxer briefs, a heart-shaped box of Reese’s peanut butter cups and a card with a beautiful artistic design on the front in swirls and beads in various shades of reds and pinks. The front reads simply ‘I love you’. Inside; ‘…more and more each day. Happy Valentine’s Day’. Simple, yet eloquent. I wrapped it all up, signed it with the silly quips about ‘getting him some new sexy undies’ and set it beside his briefcase to find this morning, so we can have fun later, even with some toys, learning to use it online with a penis pump guide on yolosextoys.
.

Of course, I also fixed him some red velvet cupcakes, homemade yeast rolls and spaghetti for dinner (one of his favorites). He showed up home twenty minutes ago with Papa John’s pizza because he didn’t want me to have to cook on Valentine’s Day!!

Communication, dear. Communication…at least we were thinking about what each other would want instead of ourselves. Yes, I am a very lucky woman to have him!!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
